Jamie Vardy is seeking a return to the Premier League after suffering relegation with Serie A side Cremonese, according to reports in the Daily Mail. The 39-year-old forward, a Leicester City legend, is hoping to secure one final challenge in England’s top flight before retiring.
Vardy joined Cremonese last summer, signing a contract with an additional year’s option dependent on the club maintaining their Serie A status. That clause has now expired following Cremonese’s relegation despite Vardy scoring seven league goals for the club. He is now a free agent, and several English clubs are reportedly interested in signing him.
Prior to his move to Italy, Vardy spent ten years at Leicester City, becoming their all-time leading goalscorer with 164 goals in all competitions. He was instrumental in Leicester’s remarkable Premier League title win in 2016, forming a potent attacking partnership with Riyad Mahrez. He continued to be a key player for the Foxes, even after their title triumph, and also represented England at the international level.
Last year, The Sun reported a potential return to his boyhood club, Sheffield Wednesday, but Vardy ultimately opted for a move to Cremonese. There has also been reported interest from Feyenoord Rotterdam, as indicated by the BBC. However, Vardy is prioritizing a return to the Premier League, hoping to find a club where he can contribute and enjoy a ‘fairytale’ ending to his career. A return to the Premier League would allow Vardy to continue playing at a high level and potentially add to his impressive goalscoring record. His experience and proven ability could be a valuable asset to any team.
