Tottenham Hotspur are actively working to facilitate the departure of goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario this summer, according to TEAMtalk. The Italy international’s future has been subject to speculation, and the club is exploring options as Roberto De Zerbi reshapes the squad.
Inter Milan were previously close to securing Vicario, but they have since opted to promote Josep Martinez to first-choice goalkeeper and are now pursuing Ivan Provedel from Lazio as a backup. While Inter remain admirers of Vicario, the financial cost is deemed too high for a player who wouldn’t be guaranteed a starting role.
This has opened the door for interest from Juventus and Napoli, both of whom have made enquiries about a potential transfer. Juventus are searching for a new number one after failing to agree terms with Liverpool’s Alisson Becker, and with Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez proving too expensive, Vicario has emerged as a viable target. The player’s representatives have indicated a move to Turin would be appealing.
Napoli have also entered the race, planning significant changes in their goalkeeping department and viewing Vicario as a strong candidate to become their long-term number one. They are prepared to move on from both Alex Meret and Vanja Milinkovic-Savic.
Tottenham are anticipating Vicario’s sale and are already planning for life without him. De Zerbi is reportedly encouraged by Antonin Kinsky’s performances but desires an upgrade if possible. Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen is identified as De Zerbi’s preferred replacement, having previously worked successfully with the Netherlands international on the south coast. Other options, including James Trafford and Anatoliy Trubin, are also being considered.
Vicario joined Tottenham three seasons ago, making 117 appearances for the club during a period of instability. His departure would likely signal a significant shift in De Zerbi’s squad building as he prepares for the new campaign.
