Werder Bremen are considering a permanent transfer for SC Freiburg forward Eren Dinkçi, according to DeichStube, the club’s affiliated publication. The move would see Dinkçi return to the club he previously departed in 2024, after an initial spell yielded just one goal in 14 appearances – a winner against Mainz in December 2020.
Dinkçi’s potential return to the Weserstadion has been publicly encouraged by the player himself, who recently stated his desire to score for Bremen at their home ground. This admission has added weight to the speculation surrounding a possible transfer, particularly given Bremen’s current squad situation.
The likelihood of a deal is further increased by the potential departure of Justin Njinmah to England, which would create a vacancy in Bremen’s attacking options. Should Njinmah leave, the club will almost certainly seek a replacement, and Dinkçi has emerged as a strong candidate.
Dinkçi initially transferred from Werder Bremen to SC Freiburg for a reported fee of €5 million following a successful loan period with 1. FC Heidenheim. However, the forward struggled to make a significant impact at Freiburg, prompting a subsequent loan return to Heidenheim for the latter half of the 2025-26 season.
During his second spell at Heidenheim, Dinkçi demonstrated his attacking capabilities, scoring three goals and providing three assists in 14 appearances. Werder Bremen were previously offered the opportunity to sign Dinkçi on loan during the winter transfer window of that season, but ultimately declined. The club may now revisit their interest, recognising the player’s improved form and potential value. A successful transfer would provide Bremen with an experienced attacking option, while offering Dinkçi a chance to reignite his career at a club where he has previously expressed a strong desire to play.
