Werder Bremen have completed the permanent signing of attacking midfielder Chuki from Real Valladolid, the Bundesliga club confirmed on Friday. The 22-year-old joins the German side after a productive season in Spain’s second division.
Chuki, whose full name is Jesús Chukiwke Imaz, arrives at the Weserstadion with a growing reputation as a creative force. He scored seven goals and registered eight assists in 34 appearances for Real Valladolid in the 2025/26 Segunda División campaign, establishing himself as a key player for the Spanish club. He progressed through the youth ranks at Valladolid, making his senior debut for the club in 2023.
Werder Bremen’s head of professional football, Peter Niemeyer, expressed the club’s enthusiasm for the new arrival. “Chuki is a really exciting player who already has experience in Spain’s top two divisions at a young age,” Niemeyer stated. “He is an attacking midfielder with a lot of potential, and we want to help him make the most of that potential here at Werder.”
Chuki himself voiced his satisfaction with the move, believing Werder Bremen represents the ideal next step in his career. “I’m happy and confident that Werder is the best possible club for me and the right step in my career,” he said. He also acknowledged the difficulty of leaving Real Valladolid, the club where he developed as a player. “It was a very carefully considered decision. It was difficult to leave Real Valladolid – the club where I came through – because I grew up there, in my city, and I will always be incredibly grateful to them.”
The transfer provides Werder Bremen with an additional attacking option as they prepare for the upcoming Bundesliga season. The club finished tenth in the league last season and will be hoping Chuki can contribute to a push for European qualification. The financial details of the transfer were not disclosed by either club, but it is understood to be a modest fee reflecting Chuki’s current contract situation and potential.
Chuki represented Spain at various youth levels, including appearances for the Under-19s, demonstrating his early promise. His arrival at Werder Bremen signals the club’s commitment to developing young talent and building a competitive squad for the future.
