Jeremy Agbonifo will spend the upcoming season on loan at Polish side Jagiellonia Bialystok from RC Lens, the clubs have confirmed. The agreement includes a €3 million option to buy for the 20-year-old winger. This move comes after two prior loan spells for Agbonifo last season, indicating he was not a key part of Lens’ plans moving forward.
Agbonifo’s previous loan stints were with FC Basel in Switzerland, lasting from August to February, and then with Häcken in Sweden, from February to June. He initially joined RC Lens from Häcken in 2022 for a reported fee of €7.5 million, but has only made eight appearances for the French club since then. The lack of first-team opportunities at Lens prompted the club to seek loan arrangements to provide the young player with consistent game time.
Jagiellonia Bialystok finished third in the Polish Ekstraklasa last season, and will be looking to build on that success with the addition of Agbonifo. The Polish club will cover his wages for the duration of the loan, and have the opportunity to secure his services permanently should he impress. The option to buy suggests Jagiellonia Bialystok views Agbonifo as a potential long-term asset.
Agbonifo is under contract with RC Lens until June 2028, but his future appears to lie away from the Stade Bollaert-Delelis. The loan move provides him with a platform to develop his game and potentially earn a permanent transfer, while also freeing up space in the Lens squad. This move allows Agbonifo to seek regular playing time and continue his development in a new league.
