Roma defender Angelino is aiming to regain his form and convince manager Daniele De Rossi of his value during the upcoming pre-season, according to reports in Italy. The Spanish left-back endured a difficult 2023-24 campaign largely sidelined by injury, making limited appearances after an initial spell of regular starts in August and September.
Angelino reportedly lost 15 kilograms during his recovery period, and his return to fitness was gradual. Despite the setbacks, the 27-year-old is keen to remain in Rome, where he had established himself as a key player before his injury. He is expected to participate in the team’s summer training camp and demonstrate his capabilities to De Rossi.
The Spaniard previously played for Manchester City and PSV Eindhoven, and joined Roma on loan from Leipzig last summer. While Espanyol of La Liga had expressed interest in signing Angelino, the player is currently focused on securing his future with the Serie A club. He will discuss potential transfer options with De Rossi following the pre-season period.
Roma have also been mourning the loss of Massimo Manara, their former head of medical staff for five years between 2019 and 2024. Manara, who recently moved to Sampdoria, passed away at the age of 63, prompting a statement of condolence from the club, describing him as an ‘exemplary professional and a man of great character.’ Angelino’s successful reintegration into the squad could provide competition for the left-back position, strengthening Roma’s defensive options for the upcoming season.
