Jonathan Asp Jensen has completed a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich to Deportivo La Coruña for a reported fee of €6 million, the German club confirmed on Friday. The 20-year-old Danish midfielder has signed a contract with the newly promoted La Liga side that will run until 2031. The move brings an end to Jensen’s time in Bavaria, where opportunities in the first team proved limited.
Jensen’s only senior appearance for Bayern came in a 2-0 Bundesliga victory over VfL Wolfsburg in May 2024, a brief cameo that highlighted the competition for places within the squad. Despite his potential, the midfielder found himself largely restricted to training and youth team fixtures. Bayern will be hoping the transfer fee represents good value for a player who didn't break into the first team.
To gain valuable playing experience, Jensen spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Grasshopper Zurich in the Swiss Super League. His performances in Switzerland were impressive, attracting the attention of several clubs, including Deportivo. He scored eight goals and registered six assists in 33 league appearances for Grasshopper, establishing himself as a key player in midfield. The strong goal return from midfield will be particularly appealing to Deportivo.
Deportivo La Coruña secured promotion back to La Liga at the end of the 2023-24 season, and are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of their return to the top flight. The signing of Jensen represents a significant investment for the club and signals their ambition to establish themselves as a competitive force in Spanish football. The midfielder’s creativity and goal-scoring ability should prove valuable as Deportivo aim to navigate the challenges of La Liga. This move provides Jensen with a clear pathway to regular first-team football and the chance to develop his game in a competitive European league.
