Atalanta have officially announced the appointment of Giuseppe Pompilio as their new Sporting Processes Director, reuniting him with recently appointed sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli. The move sees Pompilio join the club with a remit to organize, coordinate, and optimize all processes within the sporting area, according to a club statement.
Pompilio arrives at Atalanta after a spell at Juventus, where he worked alongside Giuntoli but the partnership did not yield the desired results. Prior to his time in Turin, the director held positions at Carpi and Napoli, consistently working in tandem with Giuntoli over a period exceeding ten years. This established working relationship appears to be the core rationale behind Atalanta’s decision.
The club highlighted Pompilio’s qualifications in their announcement, noting his law degree, qualification as a lawyer, and previous role as a contract lecturer at the University of Urbino. His career in football administration began at Fano Calcio before progressing through the ranks at Carpi, Napoli, and Juventus. Atalanta’s ownership group, including the Percassi and Pagliuca families, extended a warm welcome to Pompilio, wishing him success in his new role.
The appointment signals a clear intent from Atalanta to strengthen its internal structure under the leadership of Giuntoli. The pair are known for a coordinated approach to scouting, squad building, and overall sporting operations. By recreating this dynamic in Bergamo, Atalanta hope to build upon their recent successes and establish a more robust and efficient sporting department. This strategic move aims to improve the club’s ability to identify and develop talent, as well as optimize its transfer activity.
This appointment is a clear indication of Atalanta’s ambition to solidify its position as a top club in Serie A and compete effectively in European competitions. The synergy between Giuntoli and Pompilio is expected to bring a renewed focus on strategic planning and execution within the sporting department.
