Winsley Boteli has completed a permanent transfer to FC Sion from Borussia Mönchengladbach, the Bundesliga club confirmed on Monday.
The 19-year-old forward spent the 2025/26 season on loan with the Swiss Super League side, and Sion have now exercised a purchase option worth a reported €3.5 million.
Boteli impressed during his loan spell, scoring 11 goals in 38 appearances for FC Sion across all competitions. His performances clearly convinced the club to secure his services on a long-term basis. The move provides Boteli with a clear pathway to regular first-team football, something that was not guaranteed at Mönchengladbach.
Borussia Mönchengladbach’s sporting director, Rouven Schröder, expressed satisfaction with the outcome for both parties. “We are happy for Winsley and for FC Sion that the loan spell worked out so positively for him,” Schröder said. He also highlighted the benefit to Mönchengladbach, stating that the transfer “gives us early planning security from a sporting perspective and allows us to invest further in the squad.”
Boteli joined Borussia Mönchengladbach’s youth setup in 2024, progressing through their academy before being deemed ready for a loan move to gain senior experience. While he showed promise for the German side, competition for places in their attack is fierce. This sale allows Mönchengladbach to recoup a significant fee for a young player and reinvest in other areas of the team.
FC Sion have been actively rebuilding their squad in recent seasons, and the addition of Boteli represents a significant step forward. His goalscoring record suggests he could become a key player for the club as they aim to challenge higher up the Swiss Super League table. The permanent acquisition of Boteli provides Sion with a young, dynamic attacker with the potential for further development.
