Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi is poised to oversee a significant squad overhaul with as many as eight new arrivals anticipated this summer, according to reports. The Italian tactician, who took charge with seven games remaining last season, is being backed to reshape the team after securing Premier League survival.
Spurs finished 17th in the league, narrowly avoiding relegation, and De Zerbi has already begun making moves in the transfer market with the free signings of Marcos Senesi from Bournemouth and Andy Robertson from Liverpool. A deal for Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke is reportedly next in line. Further reinforcements are planned, with Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford and winger Savinho also identified as key targets.
Former Tottenham midfielder Danny Murphy, speaking to TEAMtalk, suggested De Zerbi may also seek another centre-half, a central midfielder, and a striker. Murphy highlighted concerns over the fitness of Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison, suggesting their availability could influence attacking recruitment. He also pointed to Dominic Solanke’s injury record as a reason to pursue another forward option.
The potential departure of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven could further necessitate defensive additions, according to Murphy. He also believes Spurs need a more dynamic midfielder, suggesting current options like Pape Sarr and Archie Gray lack the creativity to dictate games. Players like Martin Zubimendi and Alexis Mac Allister were mentioned as potential, though challenging, targets.
De Zerbi is also expected to secure the permanent signing of Joao Palhinha after a successful loan spell. Murphy believes a top-eight finish is attainable for Tottenham next season, with a push for a European place a realistic ambition given the club’s budget and De Zerbi’s coaching ability. He anticipates a positive atmosphere around the club at the start of the season, with fans fully behind the manager’s vision.
