Everton have until June 30th to decide whether to trigger a £22million option to sign Tyrique George permanently from Chelsea, the club confirmed. The 20-year-old joined the Toffees on loan in January, with the agreement including the option for a full transfer, contingent on the player also agreeing to the move.
George made a number of appearances off the bench for David Moyes’ side, starting only one Premier League match. Despite limited opportunities, Moyes has expressed his satisfaction with the young winger, stating he is “happy” with George’s performances and work rate. He added that a decision on George, along with fellow loanee Jack Grealish, will be made as the summer progresses.
Recent reports from BBC Sport have dismissed suggestions that Chelsea’s new manager, Xabi Alonso, has indicated a desire to bring George back to Stamford Bridge. This development is seen as a positive for Everton, as a potential return to Chelsea could have influenced George’s willingness to complete a permanent move to Merseyside.
The situation with George comes as Everton also consider the future of Dwight McNeil, who was previously linked with a move to Crystal Palace in January before the deal fell through. McNeil’s contract at Everton expires in 2027, and the club may be open to offers. Tyler Dibling, a summer signing from Southampton, has yet to make a significant impact on the first team.
Retaining both George and Grealish would strengthen Everton’s squad, but securing deals with Chelsea and Manchester City remains uncertain. However, Everton must make a swift decision on George, as other clubs are likely to be interested should they choose not to pursue a permanent transfer.
