Mainz 05 have confirmed the permanent signing of Sheraldo Becker from CA Osasuna, triggering a release clause tied to their Bundesliga survival. The move, finalized on Friday, sees the 31-year-old attacker officially join the German club after a successful loan spell.
Mainz’s confirmation came following their securing of Bundesliga status for another season, automatically activating the obligation to buy included in the terms of Becker’s initial loan agreement. Financial details of the transfer were not disclosed by the club.
Sporting director Niko Bungert expressed the club’s satisfaction with the deal, stating that Becker “settled in brilliantly” upon his arrival in January. Bungert highlighted Becker’s contributions both in terms of goals and assists, as well as his overall impact on the team’s performance during the second half of the season.
Becker arrived at Mainz with a reputation as a dynamic forward, having previously played under current Mainz manager Urs Fischer at Union Berlin. He began his professional career with Lokomotive Leipzig before spells at Energie Cottbus and Dynamo Dresden, eventually gaining prominence with Union Berlin. He then moved to Osasuna in 2022.
Since joining Mainz on loan, Becker has registered two goals and three assists in the Bundesliga, quickly becoming an integral part of Fischer’s squad. The player himself voiced his pleasure at remaining with the club, citing the welcoming atmosphere and the passionate fanbase as key factors in his decision.
“I’m really looking forward to staying in Mainz beyond this season,” Becker said. He also emphasized his existing relationship with Fischer and members of the coaching staff, which facilitated a smooth transition into the team. Becker’s experience and attacking prowess will be vital as Mainz look to build on their Bundesliga survival and establish themselves as a consistent top-flight side.
