Espanyol have registered their interest in signing Bayern Munich winger Bryan Zaragoza this summer, according to reports in Mundo Deportivo. The newly promoted La Liga side are seeking to bolster their attacking options and view the Spanish international as a potential addition to their squad.
Zaragoza joined Bayern Munich in January 2024 from Granada, signing a contract that runs until 2029. However, the 24-year-old has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter in Thomas Tuchel’s side, making only seven appearances for the Bundesliga champions to date, his last being in May 2024. Bayern officials have publicly stated their intention to trim the squad during the transfer window, and Zaragoza has been identified as a player they are willing to let go.
The primary hurdle to any potential deal appears to be Zaragoza’s current wage demands. Espanyol are reportedly concerned about their ability to meet the salary Bayern Munich currently pays the player. The club’s financial situation following their promotion back to La Liga may limit their capacity to offer a comparable package.
Zaragoza’s arrival at Bayern was met with anticipation, given his promising performances for Granada prior to the move. He quickly became a key player for the Andalusian club, contributing goals and assists in La Liga. However, he has found it difficult to replicate that form in Germany, facing competition from established stars such as Leroy Sané and Kingsley Coman.
Should Espanyol overcome the financial obstacles, the move would offer Zaragoza the opportunity to secure regular first-team football and potentially reignite his career. For Bayern, a sale would free up valuable wage budget and allow them to pursue other targets in the transfer market. A successful transfer could provide Espanyol with a dynamic attacking threat as they aim to consolidate their position in La Liga.
