Everton have been informed of Tottenham Hotspur’s asking price for right-back Djed Spence, with reports suggesting a deal could be possible this summer. Sources indicate Tottenham are willing to consider offers for the 23-year-old, potentially to balance the books following significant incoming transfers.
Spence has been impressing for England at the ongoing World Cup, notably making an impact off the bench against Norway with his pace and energy. Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke estimates Tottenham would seek a fee of around £40 million plus for Spence, a figure which may test Everton’s financial capabilities.
Everton have previously spent significant sums on players, paying £45 million for Gylfi Sigurdsson in 2017 and a package reaching £40 million for Tyler Dibling in 2025, suggesting they are not averse to substantial investments. However, the Toffees are also exploring other right-back options, including Guela Doue, Raoul Bellanova, Ben White and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, as they seek to strengthen the position.
Spence joined Tottenham in July 2022 from Middlesbrough, but has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter in North London. He made 6 appearances in the Premier League last season, with 2 starts. Despite this limited game time, his recent performances for England have reportedly attracted Everton’s attention, with his versatility – offering an option at left-back as well – being a further asset. Any potential move is likely to be delayed until after England’s involvement in the World Cup concludes, with the team preparing for a semi-final match on Wednesday.
