Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu is the subject of strong interest from Turkish side Fenerbahce, with a potential move hinging on the outcome of the club’s upcoming presidential election. Fenerbahce candidate Hakan Safi has publicly stated his intention to sign Calhanoglu should he win the election, alongside other high-profile targets such as Greenwood, Suarez, and Demiral.
Safi has gone as far as to claim the deal for Calhanoglu is “closed” and has already been announced, fueling speculation surrounding the player’s future. Calhanoglu, currently with the Turkish national team preparing for the World Cup, has avoided directly addressing questions about his future when approached by Turkish journalists.
The player’s agent, Gordon Stipic, has further intensified the rumors, stating that a preliminary agreement has been reached with Safi. According to Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncoglu, Stipic revealed a 3+1 year deal has been proposed if Safi is elected president. “In the last few days, I not only had in-depth talks with Hakan Safi, but I also met him in person,” Stipic reportedly said. “We have been friends for a long time and our conversations were based on great trust. Of course, we discussed many topics and some players, in particular one. If Hakan Safi wins the elections this weekend, we have reached a basic agreement regarding my most important player.”
Calhanoglu joined Inter in 2021 from AC Milan and has become a key component in Simone Inzaghi’s midfield, contributing goals and assists. He has made 107 appearances for the Nerazzurri, scoring 15 goals and providing 21 assists. Last year, Calhanoglu was briefly linked with a move following comments made by Lautaro Martinez and Marotta during the Club World Cup, but ultimately remained at Inter. It remains to be seen how Inter will respond to this renewed interest, and whether they will allow the Turkish international to depart in the summer transfer window.
