Borussia Dortmund forward Serhou Guirassy’s release clause will expire on July 15th, potentially ending the possibility of a relatively low-cost exit for the player this summer. The clause, which applies to a limited number of clubs, would have allowed Guirassy to leave Dortmund for a fee of just under €40 million.
According to Sky Germany, despite the approaching deadline, no major European clubs have yet submitted a formal bid to activate the release clause. Recent speculation had linked Guirassy with a move to Turkish side Fenerbahçe, but Sky reports that a transfer to the Süper Lig is now considered unlikely, as the sporting challenge does not appeal to the player.
Guirassy joined Dortmund last January, quickly becoming a key figure in the attack and contributing significantly to their goal tally. Prior to his move to Germany, the Guinea international had a successful spell with Rennes in Ligue 1, scoring 22 goals in 34 appearances during the 2022-23 season. He has represented Guinea at international level, earning 31 caps and scoring 16 goals.
Dortmund have not received any concrete offers for the 30-year-old, and with the release clause set to expire, the club appears increasingly likely to retain his services. Guirassy’s current contract with Dortmund extends until 2028, giving the Bundesliga side a strong negotiating position should any clubs attempt to pursue a transfer in the future. The expiration of the clause could mean Dortmund will demand a significantly higher fee for the forward should he become the subject of interest later in the transfer window.
This development leaves Guirassy’s future somewhat uncertain, though he remains a valuable asset for Dortmund as they prepare for the upcoming season and their Champions League campaign.
