Hannover 96 have confirmed the permanent signing of Daisuke Yokota from KAA Gent, activating a purchase clause following a successful loan spell. The 26-year-old midfielder has agreed to a contract with the 2. Bundesliga club that will keep him at the HDI-Arena until the summer of 2029.
Yokota joined Hannover on loan ahead of the 2023-24 season and quickly established himself as a key player for the Lower Saxony side. He featured in 28 league matches, directly contributing to nine goals with five goals and four assists. His versatility and impact in the final third proved crucial for Hannover as they aimed for promotion, ultimately finishing seventh in the 2. Bundesliga.
The move represents a significant commitment from Hannover, demonstrating their faith in Yokota’s abilities and potential. Sporting director Ralf Becker stated the club made the decision to trigger the purchase clause early, highlighting Yokota’s important goals and overall quality. “Therefore, it was clear to us very early on that we wanted to exercise our option to sign him permanently. We are delighted that we were able to secure a player of this high quality,” Becker explained, according to the club’s official statement.
Yokota began his professional career in his native Japan with Vissel Kobe before moving to Europe in 2022, joining Gent. While he gained experience in the Belgian Super League, his game time was limited, prompting the loan move to Germany. At Hannover, he has found a consistent role and a platform to showcase his talents, becoming a fan favorite in the process.
The permanent transfer provides Hannover with a settled midfield option as they prepare for another promotion push next season. Yokota’s ability to both score and create goals will be vital as the club aims to challenge for a place in the Bundesliga.
