Arsenal’s hopes of signing Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola may be boosted by the situation at Liverpool, according to reports. The potential emergence of 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha at Anfield could dissuade Liverpool from pursuing a deal for Barcola this summer.
Ngumoha enjoyed a breakthrough season with Liverpool last campaign, making 29 first-team appearances and earning a Man of the Match award on his England debut in a pre-World Cup friendly against New Zealand. Manager Andoni Iraola is expected to integrate the former Chelsea academy player further into the first team, particularly after the recent signing of Victor Munoz from Osasuna.
Liverpool completed the signing of Munoz on Thursday, adding competition for places in the wide areas. With Munoz and Ngumoha both vying for a starting position, the club may deem a further addition of Barcola unnecessary. Reports suggest Liverpool remain interested in RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah, but a move for Barcola alongside Munoz appears unlikely.
This could open the door for Arsenal, with Mikel Arteta reportedly keen to strengthen his attacking options. The Gunners are currently exploring a deal for Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers, but Barcola is also considered a key target. The Independent reports that Arsenal are planning an opening offer for the 23-year-old.
Barcola contributed to 20 goals in 49 games for PSG last season and recently scored his first World Cup goal for France against Senegal. Arsenal’s pursuit could be aided by Chelsea’s inability to offer Champions League football following their tenth-place finish in the Premier League. Should Barcola arrive at the Emirates Stadium, he is likely to challenge Leandro Trossard for a starting position on the left wing, completing Arteta’s desired attacking overhaul.
