Juventus will continue with its current leadership structure after a period of internal tension, according to reports in the Italian press. A compromise has been reached between Juventus CEO Giovanni Comolli and manager Luciano Spalletti, averting more drastic changes within the club.
Club owner John Elkann intervened to restore balance and allow for a renewed plan for the club’s future, sources say. The project at Juventus will proceed with a degree of continuity, with adjustments intended to facilitate a return to winning form. The improved relationship between Comolli and Spalletti is a key component of this plan.
Comolli had initially been viewed as largely responsible for the club’s recent failures, but reportedly demonstrated a willingness to take responsibility and engage with those who advocated for different approaches to revitalizing Juventus. He is credited with diffusing a potentially damaging situation through diplomatic efforts, maintaining stability within the club’s structure. Comolli acknowledged past errors and indicated a clearer vision for future collaboration.
Crucially, Comolli has shown openness to involving Spalletti more directly in transfer decisions, ensuring that new signings are suitable and capable of making an immediate impact. This move aims to prevent the manager from becoming overly exposed in disagreements with the board. Spalletti, a seasoned football figure, understood the importance of alignment with the club’s leadership to continue his tenure at Juventus and has welcomed the increased input.
Spalletti was appointed Juventus manager in July 2023, tasked with rebuilding the team after a period of turbulence. He previously managed Napoli, leading them to the Serie A title in the 2022-23 season. The agreement between Comolli and Spalletti is expected to provide a more stable foundation for the club to pursue its ambitions in the upcoming season, allowing them to focus on strengthening the squad and challenging for honors.
