Borussia Mönchengladbach have confirmed that Eugen Polanski will continue as the club’s manager despite a challenging 2025-2026 Bundesliga season, the club announced on Wednesday.
Sporting director Rouven Schröder stated the decision to retain Polanski, who is under contract until 2028, followed extensive internal discussions. Schröder acknowledged the season was “not optimal,” with Mönchengladbach finishing 12th in the league and securing their Bundesliga status only in the third-to-last matchday. He emphasized, however, that the club maintains faith in Polanski’s ability to improve the team’s performance.
Polanski initially took charge as head coach on September 15th, replacing Gerardo Seoane. While the club is standing by their manager, changes are planned for the coaching staff. Schröder indicated that a new team will be built around Polanski, bringing in fresh perspectives and expertise. Specific details regarding the new staff and the number of positions to be filled were not disclosed.
Schröder outlined the club’s sporting goals, stating a desire for a more attacking style of play. The squad will be adjusted with both incoming and outgoing players to facilitate this shift. Mönchengladbach have already secured three new players since the end of the season: Enzo Leopold from Hannover 96, Daniel Batz from FSV Mainz 05, and David Herold from Karlsruher SC.
Fans will have their first opportunity to observe Polanski leading a full pre-season training session on July 12th, with a training camp scheduled to begin on August 2nd at Tegernsee. The decision to retain Polanski signals a commitment to continuity, albeit with planned adjustments, as Mönchengladbach aims to improve its Bundesliga standing.
