Juventus are evaluating Monaco forward Folarin Balogun as a potential alternative to Randal Kolo Muani, according to reports in Italy. The Bianconeri are finding negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain for Kolo Muani difficult, with the French club holding firm on a €50 million valuation.
Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti is known to admire Balogun, having praised the American’s speed during a Champions League match last January. Spalletti reportedly remarked that Balogun could cover 100 meters in 11 seconds when making a run, comparing him favorably to other fast attackers. However, questions remain as to whether Balogun possesses the same physical attributes as Kolo Muani or the departed Dusan Vlahovic, players Spalletti could utilize in a more direct, vertical attacking style.
Data from Sofascore suggests Balogun had superior offensive statistics to Kolo Muani last season, though this is tempered by the fact that Kolo Muani was frequently deployed as a right winger for Tottenham, rather than his preferred central striker position. Balogun demonstrates a greater ability to create and finish chances, while Kolo Muani excels in duels. Physically, Kolo Muani, at 1.87 meters, offers more of a traditional target man presence compared to Balogun, who stands at 1.79 meters.
The report draws comparisons to Jonathan David, another relatively slight striker who excelled in Ligue 1 but struggled to replicate that form in Serie A. Juventus are also considering Alexander Sorloth of Atletico Madrid, but his €40 million price tag is also proving a stumbling block. Balogun is valued around €50 million, making him a potentially more affordable option. The pursuit of a new striker continues as Juventus navigate a limited budget due to a lack of player sales.
