FC Bayern Munich have reversed their previous stance and will no longer seek to sell defender Kim Min-Jae, according to Sky Germany. The South Korean international had been linked with a possible departure, but the club now intends to include him in their plans for the 2026-27 season.
This change in strategy means Bayern would only consider a sale if an exceptionally lucrative offer arrives and is one that Kim himself actively desires to accept. The Bundesliga champions had previously indicated a willingness to listen to offers for the centre-back, but now appear committed to retaining his services.
Kim, who is under contract with Bayern until 2028, also expressed a desire to remain with the club and compete for his place in the team. He recently participated in all three of South Korea’s group stage matches at the 2026 World Cup, demonstrating his continued involvement in international football.
Last season, the 29-year-old made 32 appearances across all competitions for Bayern, though many of those were as a substitute. He joined the Bavarian side last summer from Napoli, where he had established himself as one of Serie A’s most commanding defenders, playing a key role in their Scudetto-winning campaign. His adaptation to the Bundesliga proved more challenging, leading to speculation about his future.
The decision to keep Kim provides Bayern with a solid defensive option, and allows manager Thomas Tuchel to assess his progress during pre-season. It also offers Kim the opportunity to solidify his position within the squad and prove his value to the club.
