- FC Köln are reportedly interested in both Umut Tohumcu of TSG Hoffenheim and Mika Schröers of Alemannia Aachen as they look to bolster their attacking options ahead of the upcoming season. According to RTL/ntv, Köln are monitoring Tohumcu, while The Express newspaper reports their interest in Schröers.
Tohumcu, 21, is currently contracted to Hoffenheim until 2028, but spent the 2025/26 campaign on loan at Holstein Kiel in the 2. Bundesliga. Despite a relatively short spell with Kiel, he managed to contribute a goal and three assists in 13 league appearances, attracting attention from other clubs, including Köln. The specifics of Köln’s approach for the young forward remain undisclosed at this stage.
Schröers, 24, has been a standout performer in the 3. Liga, scoring 21 goals and providing 11 assists for Alemannia Aachen. The Express suggests that Köln view Schröers as potential cover for Ragnar Ache, or a partner to play alongside him in attack. Schröers’ path to professional football included time in the youth systems at Borussia Mönchengladbach, before a move to Arminia Bielefeld in 2024. He joined Aachen last year and quickly established himself as a key player.
Köln finished 14th in the Bundesliga last season and will be hoping to improve their attacking output. The addition of either Tohumcu or Schröers, or potentially both, could provide competition and depth in forward positions. The potential arrival of either player would likely depend on Köln’s overall transfer budget and their ability to secure favourable terms with Hoffenheim and Aachen respectively.
