Atletico Madrid are nearing an agreement to sign Kang-in Lee from Paris Saint-Germain, with the transfer at an advanced stage according to Fabrizio Romano. Personal terms between the South Korean attacker and the Spanish club are reportedly agreed, leaving the two clubs to finalize the transfer fee.
Atletico’s interest in Lee dates back to a January approach which was rebuffed by PSG, but negotiations reopened in June and have progressed swiftly since. The 24-year-old previously played in Spain with Valencia and Real Mallorca before joining PSG in 2023, and has expressed a desire to return to La Liga, reportedly agreeing a contract with Atletico through June 2031.
PSG initially valued Lee at around €35 million, as reported by ESPN, though earlier Spanish reports suggested a range of €25-30 million. The difference likely stems from the structure of the fee, with add-ons potentially bridging the gap between a guaranteed base fee and the overall valuation. Atletico’s recruitment strategy relies on player sales to fund arrivals, and the club has already completed one deal this summer, as confirmed by Romano.
PSG’s initial resistance to selling Lee has softened as the player enters the final two years of his contract at the Parc des Princes. With Lee’s preference being a move to Spain, the French club’s negotiating position has weakened. A fee of €35 million, including potential bonuses, would represent a satisfactory outcome for PSG.
The remaining step is to finalize the fee structure between the clubs. Once completed, medical examinations and a formal announcement are expected to follow quickly, according to reports in both Spanish and Korean media. Marca and other Spanish outlets indicate the deal is increasingly likely given the alignment between Lee’s wishes and Atletico’s transfer targets, and Romano’s update suggests a swift resolution is anticipated.
