Tottenham Hotspur are increasingly confident of securing the transfer of Rafael Leao from AC Milan, with the player reportedly already agreeing to a move to North London. The news comes as Roberto De Zerbi seeks to address a long-standing issue on the left wing following the departure of Son Heung-min last summer.
Multiple attempts to fill the void left by Son proved unsuccessful during the 2025/26 season, with players such as Xavi Simons, Wilson Odobert, and Mathys Tel all failing to consistently deliver from the left flank. Richarlison and Randal Kolo Muani also featured in the position, but De Zerbi evidently believes a higher-quality addition is required to complement Mohammed Kudus.
While Manchester City’s Savinho has also been linked with a move to Spurs, sources indicate that Leao is now the more likely arrival. European football expert Andy Brassell, speaking to talkSPORT, suggested that Leao may represent a “potential bargain” due to a recent dip in form and personal issues affecting his performances. Brassell noted that the player’s €175 million buyout clause is now unrealistic, opening the door for a Premier League club to secure his signature.
Leao, 27, showcased his ability on the international stage at the recent World Cup, scoring one goal and providing an assist in limited playing time for Portugal. Brassell highlighted Leao’s dribbling ability and pace, drawing comparisons to Thierry Henry, and believes that the fluidity of the Premier League could suit his style of play. He added that De Zerbi’s intense coaching style could be key to unlocking Leao’s full potential. The Portuguese international reportedly indicated his desire to leave Milan before the World Cup, seeking a new challenge in Europe, and specifically expressing interest in testing himself in the Premier League.
Tottenham’s willingness to invest significantly this summer, a departure from previous transfer windows, further strengthens their position in the pursuit of Leao. Securing his signature would represent a significant upgrade in attacking quality, potentially revitalizing their forward line and providing a dynamic option on the left wing.
