Inter Milan are continuing to evaluate multiple players as potential replacements for Denzel Dumfries at right-back, according to reports from Italy. The Nerazzurri have experienced setbacks in their initial pursuit of two targets: Fabrizio Palestra, who attracted a significant bid from Chelsea, and Khalaili, who was denied sporting eligibility by the Italian Olympic Committee.
Despite these disappointments, Inter’s technical director Piero Ausilio is set to join the team’s training camp in Germany, taking over from Dario Baccin, to further assess available options alongside assistant coach Cristian Chivu. Djed Spence of Tottenham Hotspur remains a primary target, with English sources indicating that the club would consider a suitable offer. Spence’s valuation has reportedly increased following a positive showing at the recent World Cup, and Inter would likely need to offer between €35-40 million to secure his services.
However, Spence’s limited goal contributions and assists last season – zero goals and key passes – have raised some concerns. Chivu is believed to favour a more specialised right-back who can consistently provide attacking output. As an alternative, Inter are considering Givairo Read of Feyenoord, viewing him as a potential long-term investment reminiscent of Dumfries himself when he was signed from the Netherlands.
Other players under consideration include Guela Doué of Strasbourg, who is valued at around €40 million, and Brooke Norton-Cuffy, whose appeal has reportedly waned. Rafik Belghali, offered by recently relegated Verona, is also being evaluated, though his recent demotion may be a detriment. Inter are also monitoring Vanderson of Monaco, whose price tag is estimated at €30 million, with an eye toward potential future player trading opportunities. The club is carefully weighing the costs and benefits of each candidate as they seek a suitable replacement for Dumfries on the right flank.
Dumfries has been a key player for Inter since joining the club, but his potential departure would necessitate finding a player who can immediately contribute to their attacking and defensive efforts.
