Liverpool have been advised to consider West Ham United’s Jarrod Bowen as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah this summer, according to former Reds striker Michael Owen. The suggestion comes as Liverpool prepare for Salah’s departure after nine seasons at Anfield, where he scored 257 goals and won eight major trophies.
Owen believes Bowen, valued at around £60 million, would be a suitable replacement, particularly if West Ham were to be relegated from the Premier League. He highlighted Bowen’s finishing ability and versatility, recalling a striking masterclass he observed the player conduct last season. Bowen is a “brilliant player” in Owen’s estimation, and someone he would have selected for the World Cup.
West Ham’s current precarious position in the Premier League – they are currently in the relegation zone – could influence Bowen’s future. TEAMtalk sources indicate that West Ham intend to block any approaches for Bowen, along with teammates Crysencio Summerville and Mateus Fernandes, should they secure their Premier League status. A collective sale of the three players could generate approximately £160 million for the club.
However, should West Ham be relegated, the club would likely be unable to prevent Bowen from leaving. Despite his strong ties to the club, it would be a significant ask for the England international to remain in the Championship. Liverpool are also reportedly interested in RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, but Owen’s suggestion offers a potential alternative within the Premier League. The situation remains fluid, dependent on West Ham’s final league position and Liverpool’s overall transfer strategy.
