Lyon Sign Alexander Sorloth from Real Betis in €15m Deal
Olympique Lyonnais have completed the signing of striker Alexander Sorloth from Real Betis for a reported €15 million fee. The Norway international has signed a three-year contract with the Ligue 1 club, ending his two-season spell in La Liga.
Sorloth's move comes as Lyon seek reinforcements following Alexandre Lacazette's departure to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad earlier this summer. The 28-year-old target man scored 12 goals across all competitions last season, though only five came in league play for a Betis side that finished seventh.
The transfer represents a quick profit for the Spanish club, who signed Sorloth from RB Leipzig for €10 million in 2022. His physical presence and aerial ability are seen as complementary to Lyon's existing attacking options, with new manager Pierre Sage favoring a direct style of play.
For Betis, the sale helps balance finances after failing to qualify for European competition. The Andalusian club had already secured replacement options through the free transfer of former Barcelona striker Martin Braithwaite and the loan signing of Porto's Toni Martínez.
Sorloth becomes Lyon's fourth summer signing as they rebuild following a disappointing eighth-place finish last campaign. The Norwegian striker will compete with Malick Fofana and Mama Baldé for starting minutes when the French season begins on August 18.
