Manchester United are preparing a significant offer for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, according to reports from Italy. The move comes as the club’s new ownership group, INEOS, prioritizes strengthening the midfield ahead of next season’s Champions League campaign.
United have identified Tonali as a ‘top target’ and are ‘ready to make a massive offer’ to convince Newcastle to sell, as reported by TuttoJuve. The club’s technical project, led by Michael Carrick, aims to add quality and balance to the central midfield, with Tonali seen as a key component. This interest builds on existing reports from TEAMtalk’s Graeme Bailey, who has previously highlighted United’s pursuit of the Italian international.
Tonali joined Newcastle from AC Milan last summer for a reported £60 million, quickly establishing himself as a regular in Eddie Howe’s side. He has made 32 appearances across all competitions this season, contributing with one goal and one assist. However, his camp is now reportedly pushing for a move away from St. James’ Park, potentially opening the door for United.
Newcastle initially publicly resisted interest from Arsenal in January, with CEO David Hopkinson stating the club had no intention of selling Tonali. However, the situation appears to have shifted, and Newcastle could now be willing to consider offers exceeding £75 million, according to Graeme Bailey. Other clubs, including Juventus, AC Milan, and Manchester City, have also expressed interest in Tonali, though the player is believed to favour a return to Italy. The potential arrival of Tonali would provide United with a dynamic and technically gifted midfielder, addressing a long-standing need in the squad.
