Manchester United and Newcastle United are leading the race to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha, according to reports from Germany. Both Premier League clubs are seeking midfield reinforcements this summer, and the 25-year-old has emerged as a key target for both.
United have already secured a deal for Atalanta’s Ederson, but manager Erik ten Hag is still aiming to add at least one more player to his midfield options. Nmecha, who impressed playing for Germany, is reportedly high on the shortlist alongside Chelsea’s Andrey Santos and Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni, with Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, and Tyler Adams also under consideration.
Newcastle are also in the market for midfield additions following the sale of Sandro Tonali to Tottenham for a fee potentially reaching £100 million. Uncertainty surrounding the future of Bruno Guimaraes, who has attracted interest from Arsenal, further increases the need for midfield strengthening. Reports indicate that Nmecha is now a serious target for the Magpies as well.
Formerly a Manchester City player, Nmecha is said to be open to a return to the Premier League. However, Borussia Dortmund have placed a significant price tag on the player, reportedly demanding €120 million (£102.6m / $137.2m) for his services. It remains unclear whether either United or Newcastle will be willing to meet that valuation. Dortmund’s need to raise funds, due to missing out on Champions League qualification and recent spending on new signings like Johan Gadou, may offer some leverage in negotiations.
With Germany eliminated from the World Cup, the window for a potential transfer for Nmecha is now open, and both Manchester United and Newcastle are expected to assess their options and potentially formalise their interest with a bid.
