Manchester City and Bayern Munich have both registered interest in Chelsea defender Malo Gusto, according to TEAMtalk. Intermediaries have been sounding out top European clubs regarding the 23-year-old’s potential availability this summer.
Gusto arrived at Stamford Bridge from Lyon in 2023 for a reported £30.7million and has since become a key player, making over 130 appearances for the club. His versatility, capable of playing as a traditional right-back, wing-back, or inverted full-back, has drawn attention from both City and Bayern, who are both seeking to strengthen in that position.
City’s interest is particularly noteworthy due to incoming manager Enzo Maresca’s admiration for the player. Maresca worked with Gusto at Chelsea and is believed to be a strong advocate for his abilities, believing he possesses the technical and tactical attributes to thrive in his system. Bayern Munich are also assessing long-term options at right-back.
Despite the external interest, Chelsea are currently relaxed about Gusto’s situation. The Frenchman is under contract until 2030, and the club are even open to discussing improved terms to reflect his development. New Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso is also thought to view Gusto as a key component of his plans, valuing his intelligence and adaptability.
Chelsea sources suggest it is difficult to foresee a scenario where Gusto would not feature prominently under Alonso, given his ability to operate in multiple systems. Currently, no formal offers have been made for the player, who is preparing for the upcoming World Cup with France.
