Yerry Mina will join Serie A side Cagliari after August 2nd, the club confirmed. The Colombian defender, recently involved in international duty, will miss the initial stages of pre-season training and a friendly match against Union Berlin. Cagliari anticipate he will be available for selection from August 8th.
Mina is currently enjoying an extended period of leave following his commitments with the Colombian national team. This means he will not participate in the early phases of Cagliari’s summer retreat. The delay impacts his availability for the pre-season camp in Ponte di Legno, as well as the upcoming friendly fixture against Union Berlin.
The club expects Mina to link up with the squad after August 2nd. His potential debut is currently scheduled for August 8th, in a match against Nice as part of the Trofeo Gigi Riva tournament, followed by a Coppa Italia tie. This staggered arrival allows Mina time to integrate with the team before competitive fixtures begin.
Mina’s move to Cagliari represents a fresh start for the centre-back, who most recently played for Fiorentina. He joined the Florence-based club in August 2023, making 34 appearances across all competitions. Prior to that, the 30-year-old spent time in the English Premier League with Everton, and also had a spell in Germany with Borussia Dortmund. Cagliari will be hoping Mina’s experience can bolster their defensive options ahead of the new season.
Cagliari are also reportedly in discussions with Juventus regarding a potential transfer for Zito Luvumbo, with Alessandro Adzic also mentioned as a player of interest according to recent reports. The club’s sporting director, Stefano Accardi, has also stated the intention to retain goalkeepers Simone Caprile and Alessandro Esposito, while also considering options regarding Andrea Belotti. Mina’s arrival adds another dimension to Cagliari’s squad as they prepare for the upcoming campaign.
