Mohamed Salah confirms Liverpool exit after nine seasons
Mohamed Salah will leave Liverpool when his contract expires this summer, ending a nine-year spell at Anfield. The 31-year-old announced his departure in an emotional farewell video, stating he wants fans to 'celebrate what we achieved together' rather than focus on his exit.
Salah, who joined from Roma in 2017, confirmed the decision while seated in front of trophies won during his tenure, including the Premier League and Champions League. 'Unfortunately, the day has come. This is the first part of my goodbye – I will leave Liverpool at the end of the season,' said the Egyptian forward. He referenced both historic triumphs and personal challenges, including last summer's tragic loss of teammate Diogo Jota.
The free transfer concludes a record-breaking Liverpool career that saw Salah score 211 goals in 346 appearances. His departure comes one year before his £350,000-per-week contract was due to expire, with no extension agreed. Liverpool have not yet officially commented on the announcement.
Salah's exit marks the end of an era for Jurgen Klopp's rebuilt attack, following Sadio Mané's 2022 departure and Roberto Firmino's 2023 exit. The forward leaves as Liverpool's all-time top Premier League scorer (129 goals) and holds the club record for most goals in a debut season (44 in 2017-18).
No destination club was mentioned in Salah's video, though Saudi Pro League sides showed strong interest last summer. His departure creates immediate pressure for Liverpool to secure a marquee attacking replacement during the upcoming transfer window.
