Tottenham Hotspur have had a second approach for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali rebuffed, according to reports from The Daily Mail’s Newcastle United correspondent, Craig Hope. Spurs have been aggressively pursuing reinforcements this summer under new manager Roberto De Zerbi, already securing Jan Paul van Hecke, Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka.
Tottenham’s initial offer for Tonali was reportedly around £75 million, and their subsequent attempt wasn’t a revised bid but rather a request for Newcastle to reconsider their position. Newcastle are holding firm, seeking a fee closer to £100 million for the Italy international, who is contracted with the club until 2030.
Tonali is reportedly open to leaving St. James’ Park following Newcastle’s failure to qualify for European competition. However, the club are bracing for a potential exodus of players, with several stars considering moves elsewhere. Bruno Guimaraes, Lewis Hall, and Tino Livramento are also reported to be evaluating their options.
Arsenal are among a number of clubs interested in Guimaraes, with the Brazilian midfielder reportedly disillusioned by the prospect of a prolonged rebuild at Newcastle. Sporting director Ross Wilson is concerned about losing key players, and the club’s valuation of Tonali reflects their desire to retain quality unless a substantial offer is received. The situation highlights Newcastle’s need to balance financial stability with maintaining a competitive squad.
The potential sale of Tonali could provide funds for De Zerbi to further reshape the Tottenham squad, while a departure from Newcastle could trigger further movement in the transfer market as Eddie Howe seeks to rebuild his midfield.
