Fiorentina and Newcastle United are both vying for the signature of Sevilla left-back Joaquin Martinez Gauna, known as Oso, this summer, according to TEAMtalk. The 23-year-old Spaniard has attracted attention from several clubs due to his versatility, being able to play as either a left-back or a left winger.
Newcastle have already initiated contact with Sevilla to assess the possibility of a deal, while Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest are also monitoring the situation closely. Fulham have also been mentioned as potential suitors. However, Fiorentina currently appear to be leading the race, with talks progressing and Oso reportedly open to a move to Italy.
Oso’s representatives have been engaged in regular discussions with the Serie A club, who view him as a long-term solution for the left side of their defence. Despite having a release clause of €20 million (£17.4m / $22.8m), Sevilla are believed to be willing to consider offers below that figure as they look to improve their financial standing. His current contract with Sevilla runs until 2027, providing the Spanish club with some negotiating power.
Chelsea’s new ownership group, BlueCo, and their affiliated club Strasbourg have also expressed interest, but this move is not currently appealing to the player. Oso has impressed with his athleticism and adaptability since establishing himself in the Sevilla first team. Last season, he made 30 appearances across all competitions, scoring twice and providing three assists. He began the season as a left-back but transitioned to a left-wing role towards the end of the campaign.
Sevilla are not actively seeking to sell Oso, but they are prepared to entertain serious offers before the transfer window closes. Fiorentina’s proactive approach could prove decisive, but Newcastle and other Premier League clubs still have an opportunity to make a late bid for the young Spaniard. A move to the Premier League remains a strong possibility, but the Italian club’s swift action may give them the advantage in securing his services.
