PSV Eindhoven midfielder Ismael Saibari is set to join FC Bayern Munich ahead of the 2024/25 season, the club confirmed. The transfer fee is reported to be around €50 million, making Saibari a significant investment for Vincent Kompany’s squad. The Moroccan international will officially join Bayern as of the 2024/25 season.
Saibari, 22, has impressed in the Eredivisie with PSV, showcasing his attacking prowess and technical ability. He recently represented Morocco at the World Cup, scoring a goal against Brazil during the tournament. This move represents a substantial step up in his career, joining one of Europe’s most prestigious clubs.
Should the transfer be completed, Saibari will become the fourth Moroccan player to represent Bayern Munich. Medhi Benatia was the first, joining in 2014 from Roma for €28 million. The centre-back made 46 appearances for the Bavarian club before moving to Juventus. Noussair Mazraoui arrived in 2022 as a free transfer from Ajax, but injuries hampered his progress, limiting him to 55 games before a €15 million transfer to Manchester United.
Adam Aznou, a recent academy graduate, joined Bayern in 2024 from Barcelona’s La Masia, but departed for Everton after only four appearances. His career has stalled since, with limited playing time in England. The experiences of these previous Moroccan players at Bayern vary considerably, highlighting the challenges of adapting to a new league and club culture.
Bayern are undergoing a period of transition under Kompany, and the acquisition of Saibari signals their intent to strengthen their midfield options. The substantial fee paid for the player indicates the club’s belief in his potential to become a key contributor. This transfer could provide Bayern with a dynamic attacking presence and further solidify their squad depth.
