Samsunspor of the Turkish Super Lig have expressed interest in taking Kevin Carlos on loan with an option to buy, according to L’Équipe. The move comes after a disappointing first season for Carlos at Nice, where he failed to meet expectations following a €6 million transfer from Basel last summer.
The 25-year-old Spanish forward scored only two goals in all competitions for Nice, with none coming in Ligue 1 despite making 23 appearances. He signed a long-term contract with the French club, extending to June 2030, but his lack of impact has prompted speculation about his future. Samsunspor’s proposal involves a paid loan deal, which would provide Nice with some financial compensation while allowing Carlos to gain regular playing time.
However, the move is not yet certain, as Carlos is reportedly keen to prove himself in one of Europe’s top five leagues – Ligue 1, the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, or the Bundesliga. He may be reluctant to move to Turkey if he believes it could hinder his chances of returning to a more prominent European competition. Nice are understood to be open to the loan arrangement, but ultimately the decision rests with the player.
Carlos joined Nice with a reputation as a promising attacker, having impressed during his time at Basel. He had previously established himself as a regular goalscorer in the Swiss Super League, but struggled to adapt to the demands of French football. A loan spell at Samsunspor could offer him a fresh start and the opportunity to rediscover his form, potentially leading to a permanent transfer if he performs well. This move could allow Nice to free up space in their squad and potentially reinvest in other areas, while Carlos would gain valuable experience and a chance to rebuild his career.
