Chelsea legend Thiago Silva has announced he will depart Porto this summer, leaving his future uncertain amid potential retirement, while Liverpool are set to conduct an end-of-season review that could impact Arne Slot’s position as manager. This comes as Manchester United have been alerted to the availability of Atalanta midfielder Ederson, who has confirmed he will not be renewing his contract, and Marco Silva is emerging as the leading candidate to replace Jose Mourinho at Benfica.
Silva’s departure from Porto comes after he was surprisingly omitted from Brazil’s World Cup squad, a decision that reportedly disappointed the veteran defender. According to Fabrizio Romano, Silva is now weighing his options, considering whether to pursue another club or retire from professional football. While he harbours no ill will towards the national team or manager Carlo Ancelotti, the omission has prompted reflection on his career path.
At Liverpool, despite a season that has fallen short of expectations, the club are set to undertake a comprehensive review encompassing all aspects of the operation. Romano confirmed that this review will include an assessment of Slot’s performance, as well as the futures of key personnel like Richard Hughes, who is attracting interest from Saudi Arabian clubs. Should Liverpool decide to move in a different direction, Andoni Iraola, currently at Bournemouth, is being considered as a potential replacement, given his existing relationship with Hughes and his impressive work at Bournemouth.
Manchester United are actively seeking midfield reinforcements and have identified Ederson as a potential target. The Brazilian has informed Atalanta that he will not sign a new contract, making him available this summer. United have made contact with Ederson’s representatives and are aware of the situation, though he is one of several midfielders on their shortlist. Ederson himself is reportedly keen on a move to Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Benfica are searching for a new manager following Mourinho’s impending move to Real Madrid. Marco Silva, currently managing Fulham, has emerged as the frontrunner for the position. His success at Fulham has earned him recognition within Benfica, and he is considered a strong candidate to succeed Mourinho. Ruben Amorim, previously linked with the role, is reportedly prioritizing a move abroad and is not currently pursuing a return to Portugal.
