Vinicius Junior will meet with the Real Madrid board in late July to continue negotiations regarding a contract extension, according to a report in Diario AS.
The forward’s current deal is set to expire on June 30, 2027, meaning he will be able to begin discussions with other clubs on January 1 if an agreement is not reached. This looming deadline adds urgency to the upcoming talks. AS reported, via Managing Madrid, that Vinicius has already turned down one offer from the club and is seeking a substantial increase to his current salary.
Despite the previous rejection, sources within the club are reportedly optimistic about the prospect of reaching a new agreement, and a sale has never been considered as an option. This positive outlook follows recent communications between the club and Vinicius’ representatives.
This situation echoes previous contract negotiations with the Brazilian international, where initial optimism ultimately failed to produce a deal. Managing Madrid noted that similar confidence surrounded earlier discussions which ultimately stalled. The club has recently been proactive in securing the futures of other key players, with Aurélien Tchouaméni signing an extension through 2031, and other renewals completed earlier in the year.
The upcoming meeting will be crucial in determining whether Real Madrid are willing to significantly improve their offer, and whether Vinicius’ camp will find that improvement acceptable. A successful outcome would provide clarity and stability to the squad’s long-term planning. Failure to reach an agreement will see the January 1 date become a significant concern for the club, potentially opening the door for Vinicius to move elsewhere as a free agent.
Both parties currently express a desire to continue their association, but bridging the gap in expectations will prove to be the key challenge.
