Werder Bremen have reached an agreement with SV Elversberg for the transfer of midfielder Lasse Günther, according to Sky Germany. Negotiations are currently ongoing to determine a suitable transfer fee for the 23-year-old, who played a pivotal role in Elversberg’s promotion to the 2. Bundesliga last season.
Günther registered eight assists during the recent campaign, establishing himself as a key creative outlet for the Saarland-based club. He joined Elversberg from FC Augsburg last summer for a reported fee of €300,000, signing a long-term contract that runs until 2028, which could influence the transfer fee Bremen will need to offer. Despite his relatively short time with Elversberg, his performances have clearly attracted the attention of Bundesliga clubs.
Werder Bremen are seeking to bolster their options on the left side of defence following the impending departure of Isaac Schmidt, whose loan spell with the club concludes at the end of the current season. The Bremen squad currently lacks natural cover in that position, prompting the pursuit of Günther. The future of Olivier Deman remains uncertain, adding to the need for reinforcements.
Felix Agu represents another potential option for Bremen, though his availability has been limited by a history of frequent injury problems. Günther’s arrival would provide competition and depth in a position where Bremen are currently vulnerable. The transfer would allow Bremen to add a promising young talent to their squad and address a clear positional need ahead of the new season. His ability to create chances, demonstrated by his assist record, could prove valuable for Bremen’s attacking ambitions.
